What a no-monthly-fee account means
A no-monthly-fee shipping account costs nothing to hold and nothing in a week when you don't ship. You pay only per label — from £12.80 for a UK to USA DDP parcel — with no subscription, no minimum volume and no contract. Open it in a few minutes, connect your store, and your fixed cost stays at zero until the moment you print. That's the whole model: TradeWind earns on the shipping, not on a standing charge.
It matters most for seasonal and growing sellers. A £50/month subscription is £600 a year whether you ship 10 parcels or 1,000, and in a slow month it quietly erodes your margin. With a per-label account your shipping cost tracks your actual volume, so a quiet January costs you nothing. See the full breakdown on the pricing page.
House rates or your own UPS contract
There are two ways to run a TradeWind account. Most sellers use house rates: you book on our UPS Worldwide Economy contract, so there's no need to negotiate with UPS, commit to a daily pickup or hit a monthly minimum. Labels start from £12.80, and once you ship volume your business rate drops below the public card automatically.
If you already hold your own negotiated UPS contract, the optional BYOA plan books against your own rates for a flat £29/month with no per-label markup and no volume tiers. It's the only paid tier, and it's genuinely optional — you can switch between house rates and BYOA whenever it suits you. Sellers shipping serious volume to America should also read the UK to USA business shipping guide and the wider business shipping overview.
Every US parcel ships duty pre-paid
Every UK to USA parcel booked on your account ships DDP — Delivered Duty Paid. The US import duty is calculated per HS code from live tariff data, shown before you commit, and pre-paid to UPS at checkout, so your American buyer receives the parcel with nothing to pay at the door. The £12.80 is the label price; duty is added per HS code on top, not baked into it.
This is no longer optional. The US $800 de-minimis exemption ended on 29 August 2025 (Executive Order 14324) and an origin-based US tariff surcharge now sits on top (10% for UK-made goods — the July 2026 successor to the expired Section 122 baseline), so every commercial parcel attracts duty regardless of value. Getting the customs side right at checkout is what stops a surprise bill landing on your customer. Read what de-minimis ending changed.

Business account FAQs
Is there a monthly fee for a TradeWind business account?
No. A TradeWind house-rate business account has no monthly fee, no subscription and no minimum volume. You pay per label at business rates that sit below our public £12.80 card, and nothing in a week when you don't ship. The only paid tier is the optional BYOA plan at a flat £29/month.
What does it cost to open an account?
Nothing. Signing up is free and no card is needed to start. You only pay when you book a label — from £12.80 for UK to USA DDP, with US import duty added per HS code on top and pre-paid at checkout.
When would I pay the £29/month BYOA plan?
Only if you already hold your own negotiated UPS Worldwide Economy DDP contract and want to book against those rates instead of ours. BYOA is a flat £29/month with no per-label markup and no volume tiers. If your own rates beat our house rates by more than £29 a month, it pays for itself; if not, stay on the free house-rate account.
Do I need my own UPS account to ship?
No. The house-rate account uses our UPS Worldwide Economy contract, so you don't have to negotiate with UPS, commit to a daily pickup or hit a monthly minimum. BYOA is only for sellers who already have their own contract and would rather use it.
How is this different from a subscription shipping platform?
Subscription rivals charge £20–£150 a month before you print a single label — a fixed cost that quietly eats your margin in a quiet week. TradeWind makes its money on the shipping, not the subscription, so the house-rate account is free and you only pay per label.
Is there a contract or a minimum volume?
No contract and no minimum. The house-rate account is monthly-rolling and free. BYOA is a monthly-rolling plan you can cancel or switch off any time.
Which order sources can I connect?
ShipStation and WooCommerce are live today; Shopify, Etsy, eBay and BigCommerce are working through OAuth approval and switch on as each clears. You can also upload a CSV or paste an order list in the meantime.
Does every US parcel ship DDP?
Yes. Every UK to USA parcel ships Delivered Duty Paid: the US import duty is calculated per HS code and pre-paid at checkout, so your buyer receives the parcel with nothing to pay. Since the $800 de-minimis exemption ended on 29 August 2025 (Executive Order 14324), every commercial parcel attracts duty, so DDP is what stops it landing on your customer as a surprise bill.
