Manchester punches at the top of UK e-commerce outside London, and the mix is distinctive: streetwear and technical-wear brands, the Northern Quarter's vintage and record dealers, indie publishers, supplement companies. A lot of that sells extremely well to American buyers — US customers will happily pay for a Manchester vintage band tee or a small-batch jacket they can't get domestically. The thing that breaks is usually the shipping economics, not the demand.

That's the part we handle. TradeWind sells UPS Worldwide Economy DDP and Royal Mail PDDP labels with the US import duty pre-paid at checkout — proper UK to USA shipping at reseller rates, without a UPS contract or a monthly fee. Book online from your M-postcode workshop, print one PDF (label, commercial invoice, customs declaration), drop the parcel at a shop on your way past.

Manchester rates — same card as everywhere, honestly cheap

Our prices don't change by origin city; weight and duty are what move the number:

Weight UPS Worldwide Economy DDP (TradeWind) Royal Mail PDDP
Up to 1kg £12.80 £19
1–2kg £15.50 £24
2–5kg £27 — (over 2kg cap)
5–10kg £41 — (over 2kg cap)
10–20kg £71 — (over 2kg cap)
20–30kg £101 — (over 2kg cap)

Label prices. US import duty is calculated from your HS code and declared value and added — pre-paid — at checkout, so your buyer pays nothing on delivery. Live quotes show the full landed figure before you pay.

Worth being clear about the Royal Mail column: PDDP is a decent service for very light parcels, but it stops at 2kg. The heavier end of Manchester's output — boxed trainers, multi-item vintage orders, anything textile in bulk — is UPS territory. Quote your actual parcel for the landed figure including duty.

Transit and coverage

4–7 working days, drop-off to doorstep, end-to-end in UPS's own network with tracking at every scan. Duty is pre-paid (that's the DDP part), so the parcel doesn't sit waiting for your buyer to settle a bill — and your buyer never meets one. Coverage is the 48 contiguous states plus Washington DC. Alaska and Hawaii aren't covered by either DDP service; those orders need a non-DDP service and the buyer pays duty on arrival. PO Boxes work on Royal Mail PDDP (USPS does the final mile) but not on UPS.

Dropping off around Manchester

UPS Access Points are embedded in the everyday shops — newsagents, convenience stores, dry cleaners — across the city centre and the ring of boroughs around it. There are over 5,000 Access Points nationally and Greater Manchester is well covered; in practice most sellers we talk to have one closer than their nearest Post Office. The booking screen looks up the points nearest your postcode before you pay, so you're choosing from real options on your actual route. Prefer the Post Office? Book Royal Mail PDDP and drop at any branch.

What ships out of Manchester

  • Streetwear & technical wear
  • Vintage clothing
  • Records & music merch
  • Books & print
  • Specialist food & drink
  • Health & supplements

Apparel is the big one, and it's also where US duty bites hardest — clothing HS codes carry some of the higher rates, so pre-paying it (rather than letting it ambush your buyer) matters more here than in most categories. Check your product's rate in the HS code lookup before you price your US listings.

A Manchester customer, in their own words

Customat make personalised coir doormats — heavy, awkward parcels by any standard — from a Manchester workshop, and were paying £42 a parcel to a premium courier before switching. The same doormat now ships for a fraction of that on UPS Worldwide Economy DDP, same 4–7 day promise:

"We went from spending an hour per day on shipping admin to about ten minutes. The US rates are unbeatable for our heavier mats."

We're sellers ourselves — three Etsy Star Seller shops, 80,000+ verified reviews between them — and a UPS-authorised reseller. The rates on this page are the rates in checkout.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I drop off a UPS parcel in Manchester?

Any UPS Access Point takes it — they are typically corner shops, convenience stores and dry cleaners, part of a 5,000+ strong network across the UK that covers Manchester and the wider boroughs well, from the city centre out through Salford, Stockport and beyond. When you book through TradeWind, the booking screen shows the Access Points nearest your postcode before you pay. Royal Mail PDDP labels are dropped at any Post Office branch instead.

How long does Manchester to USA delivery take?

UPS Worldwide Economy DDP runs 4–7 working days from drop-off to delivery, and the window is the same from Manchester as from anywhere else in Great Britain. Drop off earlier in the day to make that day’s collection from the shop.

What does shipping a 2kg parcel from Manchester to the US cost?

The UPS Worldwide Economy DDP label for a parcel up to 2kg is £15.50, with the US import duty for your HS code and declared value added — pre-paid — at checkout. Royal Mail PDDP at the same weight is around £24, and 2kg is its hard cap. Anything heavier goes UPS, up to 30kg.

Do my US customers pay anything on delivery?

No. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means the duty is calculated and paid when you buy the label. The buyer sees customs clearance happen in tracking and then a normal delivery — no brokerage fee, no invoice, no surprise at the door.
